Make sure you get enough fats!
When planning calorie input: take your usual ~2000
Active outdoor winter activities, add 2-3000 calories extra
Sleeping outdoors, add another 1000.
So an active cold weather camping trip, that's 4-6000 calories a day!
Don't be afraid of fats: whole cream, butter
Moderate carbs, but enough fat to fill you
"Omelette in a bag": crack an egg into a freezer bag (thinner ones could rupture), put in cheese/veggies/etc, boil it
"Stewed candied apples": apple pie filling topped with butter (can mix with oatmeal, nuts, etc)
Can be "trail snack" or "stop and cook"/cook in camp.
Keep drinking! Plan for double portions.
The most protein rich meal of the day. Should be your "luxury" meal.
Don't use ramen in the cups: now you have trash
Not a replacement for a meal, but eat during the day
I suggest: pemmican?
Minimize candy (empty calories)
