  2. treat every firearm as though it's loaded
  3. know what is in front of and behind your target when using a firearm
  4. keep your finger off the trigger of a firearm until you're planning to shoot
  5. be sure the barrel of a firearm is clear of obstructions
  6. unload firearms when not using them
  7. only point a firearm at something you intend to shoot
  8. don't run, jump or climb with a loaded firearm
  9. store firearms and ammunition separately
  10. don't drink alcohol when using firearms
