is it safe to have firearms in the house?

• counterpoint: stored safely, with kids aware they are not to play with them, much of this is mitigated
• in the event of a break in, will a gun help? there's a statistic about you need to be able to get it in ~20s for it to be useful
  • Lockpicking Lawyer can break basically any lock quickly, so what's the point?

Since I first wrote this I do now store my hunting rifle in the house, but in a gun safe.
