structural ridge line

An optional (but "high end") part of a hammock. It runs between the tree straps, attaching to the hammock at its carabiners (or whatever).

Benefits

Ease of setup

I don't know how this helps. Maybe it makes it easier to get the hangs correct? Or makes it so they don't matter as much or at all?

More consistent hang

I believe that once you get it at the proper length you can have the hammock hang how you want every time.

Less stress on trees

I don't understand this one. I guess because it's basically a line between trees and you hang from that, rather than pulling on the trees themselves?

Something to hang things from

A flashlight/lantern, glasses, etc. There are ridgeline organizers.
