This allows the liquid isobutane to flow through the line. It's less efficient this way.
Probably not entirely. But since water freezes at 32 degrees fahrenheit, and isobutane boils at the same temperature, if water is liquid then the canister must be above that temperature as well.
They have mixes for four season use apparently!
