technology is not value neutral

Tech evangelists love to act like technology is value neutral (technology uses the implicit biases of its creators). But unless you put in a lot of effort, it only works as intended for people who are like its creators (ie predominantly cishet white men). See assumptions programmers make.

• virtual schooling assumes that children have a quiet place to learn, which may not be true if there are multiple kids in the house, or if they have an abusive househiold. It also requires an adult to supervise, which can be hard/impossible if all adults in the household have to work
• tech has a giant hardon for surveillance capitalism for some reason
• technology tends to reinforce societal biases
